Seniors - The month of June brought many exciting programs and events to Country Haven Retirement Home. At our home, we love to party, and as a result we did a lot of it this month.

Our first big bash for the month of June occurred on the afternoon of Friday, June 15. It was on this day that we honoured our fathers at a special Father's Day party. Our in-house musician, Tom Chaput, got the party started by playing a few tunes about fathers. Some of them included "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" and "I Want a Girl, Just Like the Girl that Married Dear Old Dad," to name a few.

As if the entertainment wasn't enough, we treated ourselves to a delicious afternoon snack at the party! Our wonderful friend Sandra Jeffery stopped off at Smokies Take-Out in Beachburg on her way here and picked up five piping-hot, scrumptuous pizzas for us to enjoy together in honour of all of our fathers! The pizzas got rave reviews as several people enjoyed a second slice! Thanks to Smokies for the pies, and thanks to Sandra for being our pizza delivery gal for the afternoon! A thank you also goes out to Bev York for coming to the party and helping me serve the pizza and juice! Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers in our Country Haven family; what would we do without you!?!

Our next big bash, the June birthday party, was held on the afternoon of Thursday, June 21.

Eric and Lorna Stevenson
It was our turn to host the monthly event, and as a result, our Country Haven family rallied together to put on a terrific party! Residents who celebrated their birthdays in June included George Conley, Georgette Barr and Mildred Woito (who coincidentally revealed to us at the party that she was celebrating her "Sweet Sixteen" birthday)! Our birthday crew took their seats at the head table, which was decorated especially for them with a "Happy Birthday" banner and purple balloons; their only task was to sit back and enjoy the party in their honour!

We were delighted to have two familiar faces here at Country Haven - Eric and Lorna Stevenson - come in to provide the entertainment for the afternoon's festivities. With Lorna tickling the ivories on the piano, and Eric playing his ukelele, this dynamic duo did a fantastic job of keeping our toes tapping and our hands clapping for the duration of the party. We were also pleased that our very own Tom Chaput was able to join us halfway through the event with his trusty guitar in hand. Needless to say, we were treated to some excellent music, as we always are when these three join forces! As Eric, Lorna and Tom broke into a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday," a scrumptuous looking birthday cake was brought in and placed in front of George, Georgette and Mildred; they worked together to blow out the candles and the cake was promptly whisked away to be sliced up and served. We all greatly enjoyed this yummy snack of birthday cake and ice cream, which was washed down with a thirst-quenching kiwi punch. Special thanks to Eric and Lorna for the entertainment; we always enjoy your visits! Thanks also to the kitchen girls, Margaret Ann Leach and Diane Perrette, for preparing our birthday feast, and also for the help in serving it! And last, but certainly not least, happy birthday to George, Georgette and Mildred! We wish you all health and happiness in the year to come!

Canada Day Party
Our third big party of the month was held on the afternoon of Friday, June 29. It was on this day that we honoured our beautiful country with a festive Canada Day party. The Hobby Room was decorated to the nines, complete with Canadian flags galore, red table cloths, red and white streamers and Canada Day balloons! The Hobby Room was not the only thing decorated for Canada Day however; resident Phyllis Harvey generously provided several staff members, as well as several other residents, including herself,

Crystal Leach & Resident Phyllis Harvey
with a festive Canada hat to wear for the day! Thanks Phyllis!

Tom got our party started by playing a few songs while residents trickled in. Once everyone was in attendance, we all joined our voices together in singing our national anthem, "Oh Canada." It was shortly after this that we brought in a beautiful cake, decorated like a Canada flag to be enjoyed together!

Upon the completion of the cake's photo shoot, it was sliced up and passed out for everyone to feast upon! As we dined on a piece of yummy "Canada Day Cake," Tom continued to play and sing for us. The time literally seemed to fly by as we were all enjoying ourselves so much; before we knew it, it was time to bring our Canada Day party to a close.

Thanks go out to everyone who came out to the party and also to Sandra Jeffery for her help, and Margaret Ann for baking that delicious cake! Happy Canada Day to all; we are truly fortunate to live in this great land of ours!
